How To Play Texas Style Hold'Em
Rules of this Homey

Hosting

  • Have fun and be cool: The house may refuse a player from participating for any reason (oooh scary).

  • Cheating: Not allowed. This includes collusion and is cause for ejection from game.

  • Time Limits: The clock is to be adhered to. Changes may be made upon consensus.

  • Banker: The person who distributes the chips and collected the money is responsible for all payouts. Any related activity must be coordinated with the banker.

  • Payouts: The general payout structure is 60%-30%-10% of the total amount of money collected from the players. Adjustments may be made by banker to make payout in round numbers and easy to distribute available money.

  • No Rakes: There will be NO pot rakes taken by the house but there may be a “beer replacement fund” tip jar that is optional for attendees :).

Chip Distribution

  • Buy-In & Chip Count: These are explained before the game (see invitation)

  • For Tournament Play: Chips will be distributed and decremented according to these rules unless otherwise describe before play begins:

  • Re-Buys:

    • Re-buys are allowed for the first 3 rounds of play.

    • Re-Buys end before the 4th round starts.

    • Player must be under 30% of initial chip count to Re-Buy more chips.

  • Late Playaz: Decremented 10-20% per round for first 3 rounds. No entry is allowed after the 4th round starts.

  • Color Up: During the exchange of chips (low to high value) the equal amount of chips are given for the exchange. Any chips remaining that are less than the amount of the higher value chip are exchanged for a higher value chip. For example, if future blinds are in increments of $500 and the house is “coloring up” by removing all $100 chips from the game, the chip exchange examples are below:

    • If a player has $500 or (5) $100 chips the exchange is (1) $500 chip

    • If a player has $400 or (4) $100 chips the exchange is (1) $500 chip

    • If a player has $300 or (3) $100 chips the exchange is (1) $500 chip

    • If a player has $200 or (2) $100 chips the exchange is (1) $500 chip

    • If a player has $100 or (1) $100 chips the exchange is (1) $500 chip

Note: Players may not distribute chips to other players during this time.

Game Play

  • Dealing: Dealer must burn 1 card before the flop, turn and river: Cards are to be removed from the deck at the time of the draw and not before.

  • Mis-Deals

    • If the dealer accidentally flips one (1) card during a deal it is reserved as the burn card and left face up until burned. If two (2) cards are revealed by accident, Re-Deal.

    • If an active player is left out of the deal or the cards are confused beyond repair, Re-Deal.

    • If a player turns their cards up while discussing a potential mis-deal, Re-Deal. Note: One (1) card accidentally revealed does not constitute a mis-deal.

    • Re-Deals are required for any situation outside of the stated rules unless table consensus is reached to prevent a re-deal.

  • Cutting the deck: This is a courtesy and is not required by the house. The person to the right cuts the deck.

  • String Bets: Placing some money out and then adding more money with a second action (aka: String Bet) is not allowed. Bets can only be made in one action, verbal takes precedence over moving chips.

  • Hands to yourself: Don’t touch another player’s chips or cards without permission

  • Keep play visual: Keep your cards and chips in plain view so all players can see who is in the hand.

  • Bets in front: All bets are to remain in front of each player until betting is complete.

  • Splashing the Pot: Players are not to throw chips in the pot so they cannot be easily accounted for (aka: Splash the Pot). Keep bets in front of player.

  • Cards Talk: The winner is determined by the best hand, the table may need to help.

  • Do Not Act Out of Turn: Violators will have beer privileges removed (haha :).

  • Turn em’ Over: The initial bettor of the final round of cards who is called to the end of a hand must show cards. The others who called have an option to muck cards.

  • No Table-Talk: No helping/urging a player with their hand unless agreed upon prior

  • Play It If You Got It: A player can only bet the chips/cash in front of them: No betting cash from pocket or chips that haven’t been distributed within the rules. No betting your car either :).
